Al Gourrier is an initiate of the Las Vegas alumni chapter. Brother Gourrier was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Educated at Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Al holds a BA in Finance, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and is a graduate from ABA’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University, and is currently a Doctorial student at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Al started his banking career in 1993 with PriMerit Bank, which was purchased by Norwest Bank in 1996 and merged with Wells Fargo Bank in 2000. In 2000 Al began his employment with Desert Community Bank as Vice President of Commercial Lending and in 2001 took over as Chief Credit Officer/Executive Vice President, a position that he held until November of 2005. In November of 2005, Al left Desert Community Bank to venture out and organize a new bank, 1st Commerce Bank, which he opened in October 2006. Mr. Gourrier considers the development, organization and his regulatory approval of 1st Commerce Bank one of his greatest professional achievements in his young career. Al was the first and only African American Bank President in the State of Nevada and was one of the youngest bank presidents in the country. After a successful 19-year career, Al Gourrier retired from banking in January of 2012.
Al has been an active member of the Las Vegas community since moving there in 1993. He has served on the national board of the Urban Financial Services Coalition, which he had been a member of since 1993. He served as an executive board member of the Make of Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, and served as an executive board member of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation, he is a member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity Incorporated (’98). Al is an adjunct instructor at the University of Phoenix, he runs his own consulting company Financial Management Solutions, Inc. Al regularly participates as a mentor in the community and often serves as an authority in community and small business lending. Al is highly respected in his field and takes pride in his work in improving the financial landscape in the minority and small business community. In 1995, the National Association of Urban Bankers named Mr. Gourrier, National Orator of the Year. In 2007, Al was recognized by In Business Las Vegas as one of the Top 40 Executives Under 40 in Las Vegas at the age of 34 and was the recipient of the Las Vegas Young Professionals 2007 Movers and Shakers Award, the 2007 Clark County African American Hero Award, as well as the 2008 SBA Community Service Award. His bank, 1st Commerce Bank was also recognized as 2009 Best of North Las Vegas State Commercial Banks by the US Commerce Association. Al and his wife Marla Gourrier have been married for fifteen years, have four children together and reside in Henderson, Nevada.
